About Cuba

Cuba, the largest island in the Caribbean, is known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes. Covering 109,884 square kilometers, it is home to about 11 million people. Havana, the capital and largest city, is famous for its colonial architecture and lively atmosphere. Other major cities like Santiago de Cuba and Camagüey reflect the country’s diverse heritage.
Cuba’s geography includes mountains, plains, and scenic coastlines. The Sierra Maestra range in the southeast is home to Pico Turquino, the highest peak at 1,974 meters. The northern coast has sandy beaches and coral reefs, while the southern coast features mangroves and rocky shorelines. Cuba has a tropical climate, with a wet season from May to October and a dry season from November to April. It also faces hurricanes between June and November.
The Cuban economy relies on tourism, agriculture, and manufacturing. Historically dependent on sugarcane, Cuba has diversified into nickel mining, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals. Tourism plays a key role, with destinations like Varadero and Viñales attracting visitors. Remittances from Cubans abroad also contribute significantly.
Cuba’s culture blends Spanish, African, and Caribbean influences. The island is famous for salsa, son cubano, rumba, and mambo. Santería, an Afro-Cuban religion, influences music and traditions. Landmarks like Old Havana showcase its artistic vibrancy.
Despite economic struggles and U.S. sanctions, Cuba maintains strong healthcare and education systems. Its heritage, music, and resilience make it a unique and influential nation.
